Chalrles de Fléval:
ou les aventures d’un jeune homme du siècle de Louis XIV. By E. D. B. Paris, Dentu, 1808. 2 volumes in one volume in-12, green chevrette, roulette of golden vines, golden letter E in a diamond cartouche in the center of the first cover, decorated smooth spine, roulette on the cuts, golden edges ( contemporary binding). Unique edition, it seems, of this historical novel as rare as it is misunderstood. Its author, responding to the initials E. D. B., has not been identified. The two copies of the BnF are the only ones kept in French public collections. Nice copy bound with the cipher of an amateur of the time, with on an endpaper the ex-libris Granger. Scattered foxing, small angular loss at 2 ff., lack of text at the bottom of a sheet from the publisher’s catalogue.
