Vesling, Johann – Tavole anatomiche del Veslingio spiegate in lingua italiana –

Padova – 1745

Title page and pages not numbered. 12 with explanation of the 24 magnificent copper plates engraved by G.Georgi, which are interspersed with the text cards. Paperback. First Italian edition of Vesling’s famous anatomical tables, with synthetic cross-references of the anatomical illustrations on the facing page. Vesling (1598-1649), studied in Vienna, then became professor of anatomy in the Medical College in Venice and subsequently in 1632 obtained the chair of anatomy at the University of Padua where he followed the techniques of Andrea Vesalio.

The work, published as „Syntagma Anatomicum” in 1641, was a great success and was reprinted in many languages. In this work the important originality lies in the fact that the Vesalian tradition of posing the anatomical images with backgrounds and landscapes is abandoned, dedicating the importance exclusively to the anatomical information, it was the first book that published original images not copied or inspired by the factory of Vesalius. At the end of our specimen is inserted a coeval handwritten anatomical drawing of excellent execution with a lack in the lower right corner.

Excellent copy printed on laid paper, old handwritten notes in brown ink on some pages, losses restored in the past with replenishment of paper in the east margin. To the final glare and the lower plate.
