2 volumes small in-12, dark blue morocco with long grain, border of vines set with golden threads, spine adorned with golden patterns with a riddled background, wavy thread on cuts, inner lace, golden edges (Thouvenin). First edition from Elzévir, “of great typographical elegance”.

It is accompanied by a life of the author and notes attributed to Pierre Dupuy, but also by an important Rabelaisian lexicon entitled Alphabet by the author François (pp. 868-940).

“This is a much sought-after book, of which fine copies are rare,” according to Brunet.

Copy on fine paper, the second volume of which has been carefully adjusted.

Charming copy in fine romantic binding from Thouvenin.

From the library of Dr André van Bastelaer, with ex-libris.

Insignificant friction; some very rare rednesses; marginal cut repaired p. 486. Very good condition nonetheless.
